Birthday Celebration Cookies!

So little blogging time...but so many cookies!  Today let's cover some birthday celebrations.  They were all milestone birthdays, so I like that I can add a cookie with significant number on it.  Also I love the flower cookies.  It adds dimension to a platter and makes it even more special. I usually add  the candle cookie on a platter for a group, as it makes a little smaller cookie, and sometimes we forget that not everyone wants a giant cookie! 

First, my MIL turned 90!  Wow! What an amazing milestone.  I made a platter of cookies and she took them to her celebration of all the October birthdays at the home she lives in.  She wasn't quick enough to get a cookie though.  Geesh.  I would have slipped one out before I decided to share!

Next up, a 50th birthday party!  They were going to a wine dinner, so I played on the theme. The corks are some of my all time favorite cookies!  I have a vision of a platter of corks...I just think they are so dang fun.  And of course, I collect them...I will have to post some of my cork creations!

One of my golfing friends has a group of gals that get together every year and do one big birthday celebration.  This year they all turned 75!  What a fun birthday to celebrate with a bunch of gal pals.  It was the heart of the summer so I kept the colors light and bright!

I'm always so honored to be a part of a celebration, especially a milestone birthday like these.  What a fun addition to a birthday for those who don't like cake.  Wait, are there actually people who don't like birthday cake?  I'm pretty sure we aren't friends.  What are you waiting for?  Get in there and bake!!!  And Happy Birthday.

 I am always making cookies, just need an event to get my wheels turning, but I have really not been blogging them.  Too many order inquiries, which I don't do.  And cooking is my passion, my love and my family cannot live on cookies!  So here's a little roundup.

Happy 80th Cookies Times Two!

I count my blessings every day.  I always start with my Mom and Dad. Not only have they been happily married for 60 years, they are both still healthy.  When my friend told me her parents were both turning 80, I was thrilled they wanted some sugar cookies.  So of course I think of my cookie idols and the beautiful china cookies, the antiqued cookies, flowers and all the other things you think of when you think of "older" folks.  Ha, jokes on me.  No doubt my friend gets her spunky spirit from her parents, they wanted color!  Nothing too serious, and not boring.  So how about a platter full of colorful candles?  Why not.  One of my favorite cookies to decorate!  And yes, I spelled the names correctly.  We're from the South you see, if you don't come up with something cute and clever for the grandkids to call you, you could be Granny.  So happy 80th Geez and Grumps!

A Happy Birthday Away From Home

So this summer on my journey around the Midwest, I caught up with my cousin Joyce and her husband Alain from Canada.  At our many cousin reunions over the years I had met their children, but we haven't had a reunion in years.  So when Joyce asked me to send cookies to her daughter, in graduate school I said sure, but where did the time go?!

She originally wanted something that would reflect Elise's love of Chinese Art and Antiquities, so Joyce got lost on the cookie cutter web sites, "Who knew?" was her response!  Tell me about it, it is amazing what is out there.  But no Chinese soldiers or Buddhas, so we went with the more traditional birthday fare!

Happy Birthday Elise!  I know your Mommy misses you....

Happy 50th!

Don't you love a birthday party? This weekend one of my cousins turns 50 and is having a bash right around the corner in San Diego. It is also college volleyball kick off so, I am heading to the courts. I am sorry I won't be there because these are the cousins I spent my summers with at Lake Delavan. Paul is the oldest in his family and was always the serious one. He made mazes and read lots of books, I guess that it is no surprise he is a doctor today. His sisters Mitzi and PJ were my buddies and we ran around together for weeks. The younger boys were Pete and Phil, and if we were desperate for money to go buy cinnamon toothpicks, sweet tarts or Pixie sticks, we would hide Pete's security blanket. It was worth a quarter or so in reward money. I'm sure my Aunt Tootsie was aware of our operation, and a couple of quarters would send us on the mile trek to the candy store. We really weren't terrible kids, we just had a mild sugar addiction! We even all went back to the lake for a reunion when our own kids were little and it sure was fun, but not quite the same as those days of the 70's. So when my cousin Patti (she was PJ, I guess she out grew that) sent me an email asking to order cookies for Paul's birthday, I was feeling a little silly for not thinking of it myself. Shipping cookies always poses a little problem with timing because you can never really count on the post office. And they must dry thoroughly before stacking them. So between my real job which has been a lot of hours and other cookie orders, I whipped up a few dozen cookies for Paul. Now these are not works of art. These are happy birthday cookies. This is not a black tie party, but a party with many family, friends and kids coming. I told Paul to think of the cookies as a collaboration between his sister and cousin. No guesses who the brains of the operation were all along! I am happy Patti thought of it, and I will be there in spirit! Hope 50 is fabulous!

A Happy Birthday Happy Birthday!

It's a birthday for twins! What fun...I was thrilled to make birthday take home favors for the Grand-Twins (also known as the Twinkies) of my favorite boss.
She is the proud Gramma of the twins, and their little sister. It makes me tired just thinking about all that energy! Sara loved the colors of the Lily inspired shower I did awhile back and wanted the same bright happy colors for her cookies. It was my pleasure. I sort of did his and her colors for the twins, and hopefully they matched the little girl twin's Lily party dress. Hopefully there were a few leftovers for those exhausted parents!
